PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Dear Parent/Guardian,
It is time to wrap up the 2019 academic year at Pinnacle College. I sincerely congratulate and appreciate all of your hard work, dedication and support. It gives me great joy to reflect back on this year, knowing that our staff, parents and students have given it their all to make Pinnacle College a better place for everyone.
A special congratulations goes out to our beloved students. Through their enthusiasm and hard work they have developed significantly and reached many fantastic achievements.
Of course, I can’t do without acknowledging our teachers as they continue to guide our students and support them in reaching their full potential.
Now that the term is almost over, ahead of us is a lengthy holiday period. I hope to encourage our students to grasp this as an opportunity to grow further; of course, they should relax and spend time with their family, but they should also find space to learn new things, through activities such as reading, writing and problem solving.
The last two weeks have been especially exciting at Pinnacle College. The End of Year Ceremonies and Grade 6 graduation were definitely amongst the highlights of the year. After weeks of preparation Gilles Plains and Golden Grove students presented the school community with a fantastic line-up of artworks and performances. Last week, the Graduation Ceremony was a memorable night for our Year 6 graduates and the Pinnacle College community as a whole. I would like to congratulate the graduation committee for ensuring our graduates got a night to remember, worthy of their treasured place in the Pinnacle College family.
We are sad to announce that a few staff members are leaving us this year. Mr. Kurbanov, finance manager, Mrs. Cimen, curriculum coordinator, Mrs. Summers, inclusive education coordinator, Miss Hughes, English teacher and Miss Tanas, school counsellor will be moving onto different opportunities. I thank them for their valuable contributions to Pinnacle College and I wish them a healthy, safe and prosperous journey in the opportunities they are to grasp. I am also excited to announce that some new staff members will be joining us next year; Mrs. Aslan as a Science teacher, Mr. Aslan as the Community Engagement manager for all three campuses and Mr. Sabrioglu as our new finance manager. I welcome them and look forward to working together.
It has been a privilege to work with the Gilles Plains and Golden Grove staff and parents as the principal for these campuses. Next year, I will be Executive principal of all Pinnacle College campuses and Mr. Sinik, current Principal of Elizabeth campus will be taking my role for Gilles Plains and Golden Grove campuses. Our new principal Mr. Kot will be replacing Mr. Sinik at the Elizabeth campus.
Last but not least, I would like to wish all parents, students and staff a happy and safe holiday season.
Kind Regards,
Deniz Yildirim
CURRICULUM COORDINATOR
Dear Parent/Guardian,
With a blink of an eye we have come to the end of another eventful and productive year. As we conclude the year we are also busily preparing for fruitful learning experiences for our students in the coming year!
Without a doubt, one of the highlights for this term was the Year 6 Graduation, students performed the song ‘the best day of my life’ and concluded the night with the most awaited moment the throwing of the graduation caps. Mr. Steven Rypp - Office Manager representing King in Mrs. Paula Luethen (MP)’s absence presented Nada Al-Balawi with the ‘King Kindness’ Award in recognition of her kind and thoughtful nature. I would like to personally thank each of our graduates for their endless efforts and look forward to hearing their future successes unfold.
On a final note, I would like to share a few words of appreciation. As most of you are aware I will be residing in Sydney as of 2020, therefore I would like to warmly thank my students, supportive parents, colleagues and senior staff for a smooth 5 years at the college. It has been a memorable learning experience and I will cherish all the valuable moments. I wish for the Pinnacle College family to continue to positively grow and prosper in the years to come.
Wishing you all a relaxing holiday and a blissful new year!
Warm regards,
Tuba Sultan Cimen

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
The end of 2019 is approaching fast and I want to thank all of our parents and students for a wonderful year at Pinnacle College. We have had so many joyous moments, shared so much wonderful food and friendship and I am so grateful to all of you.
To our school Parents and Carers I appreciate how much you love and care for your children everyday. You know your child better than anyone else, and your ideas, feedback and teamwork makes their educational experience much more meaningful. I thank you for leaving them in our care at Pinnacle College, I know how much trust that takes. I wish you many happy times over the holiday period and want you to know that we will be so happy to see them again next year.
To our students, thank you so much for all your hard work, your jokes, sharing your tears, fears and successes with us. We love seeing you grow and mature into wonderful, interesting and kind people. Please be kind to your parents over the holiday period, try to help where you can around the house, do your best to make it a calm and happy place to be. We can’t wait to start a fresh new year with our new classes in 2020.
I wish everyone a peaceful, calm and happy holiday period and a very happy new year!
Kind regards,

CAMPUS COORDINATOR AT GILLES PLAINS
Dear Parents,
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
A wonderful year ends and an even better one to begin.
We have had such an amazing year. Upon reflection we have certainly enjoyed seeing growth in our students, not only academically but also in their hearts and minds. We have achieved good results in academic measures, and we have also enjoyed the many activities planned such as festival days, excursions, fundraisers, visits to other schools and many more.
As this year comes to an end, we sadly prepare to say goodbye to a few students who are leaving us, and we thank Ms AlBayati who will be moving to the Elizabeth campus which is closer to home. We wish her all the best for 2020 and beyond. We look forward to welcoming new staff and students to our community in the New Year.
Some exciting things to look forward to in 2020 include, a new reading program called Big Six and the continuation of the InitialLit to our Year 1 class. We are also looking at building our library with new shelves and books. The Kitchen Garden program will also continue in Years 3 and 4. The front office and staff room will go through a facelift during the holidays.
There is so much to be thankful for this year and so many more blessings to come. May everyone have a safe and restful holiday.
Thank you for the support and wishes.
Warm regards,

IMPORTANT REMINDER - KISS AND DROP USAGE GUIDELINES
Dear Parent/Caregiver,
As the year comes to a close, we would like to take this opportunity to remind parents of the importance of safely dropping off and collecting their children to and from school. Please take note of the below guidelines regarding our ‘Kiss and Drop’ policy.
The Pinnacle College Kiss and Drop Zone is an area that enables you to drop your child off safely and quickly.
The area is designed so drivers do not wait in the zone and remain in their vehicles, thereby streamlining traffic and minimising queues.
In practice, however, it only takes a few inconsiderate drivers to overstay in their zones, resulting in the system breaking down, leading to hindrance, frustration and delays.
The Kiss and Drop Zone at Pinnacle College - Golden Grove is located adjacent the gym/courtyard entrance area. The Kiss and Drop Zone at Pinnacle College – Gilles Plains is located near the gates near the front office entrance.
To ensure that students, staff, parents and visitors are not in danger while travelling to and from school, you must take extra caution when driving and parking around the school sites.
In addition, please ensure you and your child understands basic road rules. If you violate the traffic rules in a school zone, you are putting children at risk.
Please note the following for proper use of the Kiss and Drop Zone:
- The Kiss and Drop Zone is a “No Parking” area
- Move as far as possible into the end of the bay
- Drivers should remain in their vehicle at all times
- When you leave home, please ensure children are in their seats with their bags within easy reach for an easy exit
- Make sure children use the footpath side of the door when getting in and out of the car
- Do not park or drop-off in Bus Zones. If you are dropping children at the bus stop and the bus arrives, it can hold up the bus and traffic flow
- Never double park
- If the Kiss and Drop Zone is full, or you would like to get out of the car, please park in the designated visitor car park area
- Please do not park in the Staff Car Park to drop off or pick up children.
We also request that you drop your children off at school no earlier than 8:35 am, and collect your child after school at the dismissal time of 3:15 pm. If your child is dropped off early, or not collected on time, your child’s safety may be compromised as they will be unsupervised. If your child has an after school activity, such as pastoral care, please also ensure they are collected on time.
We thank you in advance for your cooperation regarding this matter. We wish you a happy holiday and a safe and prosperous New Year.
Warm regards,
Front Office Staff
FOUNDATION – GOLDEN GROVE
Dear Parents,
I can’t believe the year has gone by so quickly! It seems that it was only yesterday that we had those first few weeks where the children were getting to know their friends and learning our new routines and expectations of our classroom. I have seen such growth and development throughout the year and I am very proud of all of my students.
In Mathematics children have been learning numbers from 0-100. We have been busy sequencing numbers, completing missing numbers, looking at ‘bigger’ and ‘smaller’ numbers. We have been learning about capacity, addition, patterning, money, data and time. Children have enjoyed using concrete materials to aid their understanding of topics.
In the English curriculum we have been concentrating on using our phonemic awareness to write sentences independently. This term children have been writing and reading a lot more and I am very proud of their achievements with our last major Literacy assessment.
Well done to the students who performed at our End of Year School Concert, they sang and danced to their song with confidence and enthusiasm in front of a huge audience. I would also like to congratulate three students in our class who received the Pinnacle College Academic Award for Foundation 2019. Congratulations to Elrayah Elrayah, Yasmina Nejat, Mariam Haque, Bethany Skelton and Harris Khan. Congratulations to Aleeza Litip for her fantastic and consistent behaviour throughout the entire year. Congratulations to Aisyah Khorami for receiving the Endeavour Award for most improved.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all parents for your ongoing support. I wish all parents and students a happy and safe break. Congratulations to all my Foundation children and wishing them every joy and success in year and always.
Kind regards,
Mrs Vokolos

YEAR 1 – GOLDEN GROVE
Dear parents/caregivers,
Just like that 2019 has come to an end!
Students have been working hard to perfect their End of Year concert dance performance. They have enjoyed learning many different dance techniques and movements and were very excited to finally perform it on stage! They did an amazing job!
In English this term, students enjoyed studying poetry and how to write a number of poems including acrostic and haiku poems. Students enjoyed writing these poems based on various characters in Nick Bland’s story books as well as Australian seasons. Studying these poems allowed students to consolidate their understanding of syllables in words.
Within the Mathematics curriculum, students have particularly enjoyed learning about representing data on picture graphs. Students enjoyed asking their peers questions to collect data and then using this information to create graphs.
It has been an absolute pleasure teaching all students in Year 1 and thankcyou to all the parents who have made this year an unforgettable experience. I am extremely happy with their efforts and achievements throughout the year and I wish them all the Very Best for 2020 in Year 2!
Have a lovely summer break
Kind regards,
Miss Di Cola

YEAR 2 – GOLDEN GROVE
Hi Parents!
What an incredible year! I am so sad to see the students go, but know they will be absolutely amazing in Year 3.
We have achieved so many outcomes and worked very hard this year. I am super proud of the children and to see the progress that they have made. Well done in particular to our award winning students; Aahil, Zeina, Aaya, Remzi, Aya and Gholam :) We have also been on many fun excursions, including AFL MAX, Inflatable World, Migration Museum and Adelaide Oval. It has been a busy year!
We are sad to say goodbye to Ayana, Zumurod and Zareena as they move on from Pinnacle College. We will miss you!
Please don’t forget to read and keep up with reading eggs and mathseeds over the holidays. I wish all the students good luck in Year 3 and hope you all have a safe and happy holiday! See you in 2020!

YEAR 3 – GOLDEN GROVE
Dear Parents,
2019 has certainly been an unforgettable year!
I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it, from getting to know my students on the first day of school, to watching them shine on stage at the End of Year Concert. I would like to congratulate the winners of the Year 3 Academic Awards (Yona Belba, Zoha Rafeeq and Hareem Shaikh) as well as Sarah Baaj for her exceptional behaviour and Rayona Babahanova for consistently trying her best to improve. The girls have proven that hard work really does pay off and I hope they will inspire more students to try their best.
I cannot express how proud I am of all my students for successfully completing Year 3. Watching them grow into independent, mature learners has been an absolute delight, and I am overjoyed at the thought of helping them reach greater academic and social-emotional goals next year.
I would like to extend my sincere thanks to you, the parents, for all your support. As I said as the start of the year, education is an ongoing collaboration between students, teachers and parents. Success can only be achieved when all three parties make an active effort and work together. I look forward to continuing our partnership next year.
Until then, I wish you all an enjoyable, restful break. See you in 2020!
Kind regards,
Miss Mubarak

Year 3
YEAR 4 – GOLDEN GROVE
Dear parents and caregivers,
I cannot believe how quickly the year has flown by. It seems like only yesterday I had 27 beautiful faces walking through the door as new year 4s! The students have all had an incredible year. Each child has set and accomplished new goals, made precious memories and have grown both academically and socially. It has been my absolute pleasure watching this unfold over the past year. Thank you for working as such a collaborative team with me, thank you for entrusting me with your child’s education and thank you for being so supportive through the entirety of this year, I can confidently say it’s been one of the best years ever!
Our final weeks of Literacy had us writing our final persuasive pieces. The students did a wonderful job incorporating their newly learnt writing techniques. It has been fantastic to see the students writing take on a more creative flair and students stepping ‘outside the box'. We even dabbled with the idea of writing through the eyes of objects and animals which was interesting to read!
Daily chance, temperatures and mapping concluded our term during Mathematics. The students took great interest exploring these concepts as they are used and can be applied in everyday life! Exploring coordinates and creating their own maps was a highlight to all!
This term, as an intertwined subject project, students were asked to create board games based on ‘Australia.’ I was truly blown away by the effort, thought and overall appearance of the games. The year 4s should be so proud of their efforts! I have uploaded images for you to see the final products!
Again, thank you so much for a wonderful year of learning, fun and smiles. Next year, I will be teaching at the Elizabeth campus, however I hope that you will still keep me updated with all your child’s achievements! I will truly miss you all!
Love Miss Rowlands

Year 4
YEAR 5 – GOLDEN GROVE
Dear Parents & Caregivers,
I am so proud of all that the Year 5 class has achieved! I have loved working with them over the last two years. I will miss seeing them every day but I know they will continue to blossom, shine and share their unique characters with the school community and the greater world outside. Well done to all of you, you are amazing people!
Mrs Burton
Maths: We have worked so hard all year in Maths and we are seeing the fruits of our labour. This term we have worked on chance and probability, we worked with different materials that offer different levels of probability. Fractions works side by side with probability and this was a great refresher for students as well. Some students were shocked when a 50/50 probability or ½ experiment came out as exactly as predicted. They learned that the lower the possible outcomes are the more chance they have of making an accurate prediction. We also revisited division and multiplication and looked at 3D shapes and their nets. I have prepared a ‘fractions, decimals and percentages’ booklet for all students to take home and work on over the holidays. Many would benefit from some extra practice in this area. Students who have not completed their times table goals will need to keep working towards this over the holiday period and next year as well.
Literacy: This year has passed as quickly as the speed of light! The Year 5s have learnt so much throughout the year, especially in Literacy. We’ve learnt about mind boggling topics: procedures, public speaking, poetry, information reports, analysing information, narratives and so much more. We were astonished to find out how much we learnt with Mrs. Tuba and on how fast this year has flown by!
This term we did poetry and we had to write five poems and present them in a folio. We also had to devise screen-based questions to survey a given class. We then had to compare our data with a different group and create a venn diagram and write a comparative essay. We were very surprised with the results, particularly with the Foundation and Year 1 class. Most students stated that they use technology before bed and prefer it over playing outside.
We’ve also done many other activities such as class discussions and had fun times, all contributing to our memories. We are definitely ready to be in Year 6 with all this information stored in our minds.
Meesha Ali
Science: We have been working with light during our Science experiments this term and we have discovered many amazing things. We have made periscopes, shadow puppet plays, bent light around corners and investigated transparent, translucent and opaque materials. It can be tricky to think about the rules of light and how we see when it is such a natural, often assumed gift. I have loved working with the year 5 students over the last two years in Science, they are such a naturally curious and interested bunch.
HASS: What a fun and exciting term we’ve had in the year 5 class! We have been busy completing our unit of work on the formation of the Australian Government and the Legal System. The students have enjoyed learning about the election processes, courtroom roles, voting and how laws are passed - we are fascinated so many processes are put into place to ensure everything runs smoothly. In the last 2 weeks we also covered topics in Business and Economics. Students learnt about the difference between needs and wants and why specific choices need to be made when choosing the types of resources (natural, human, capital) and how we use them to satisfy the needs and wants of present and future generations.
Technology: In Technology, students had the opportunity to plan, create and communicate ideas and information that was to be displayed through a digital system (Wix or Weebly). Collaboratively, students created several designs and templates which was used for websites or blogs. Students applied ethical, social and technical protocols when creating their websites and in the end it was great to see many wonderful, interactive and informative websites on gaming, recipes, life skills and movies etc.
We hope you have a relaxing, safe and wonderful holiday! Make sure you enjoy every moment and make the most of this holiday season! Take care.
Kindest Regards,
Year 5 Teachers,
Mrs Burton, Mrs Tuba & Miss Sawafta.

YEAR 6 – GOLDEN GROVE
Dear Parents & Caregivers,
A BIG Congratulations to our 2019 Year 6 cohort for successfully completing their Primary schooling. It has been a pleasure to witness the positive growth of students and enjoy an evening to honour their efforts. Below Latifa (graduate and unique writer) provides a glimpse of the event:
Literacy: We all graduate at some point of our lives whether its from Primary to Secondary or something big like completing your schooling. So this night was special to many. We ate, talked and remembered the times we spent together. The room was decorated perfectly, streamers hung around, balloons floated and candles were lit. We listened to the speeches prepared for us. We ate exotic food that tasted scrumptious. The awards were handed out and Nihaal got the Dux award. I think all the Year 6s should be congratulated for trying their best because that’s all that matters. Now the sky glittered with stars and we went to wear our graduation gowns and caps. Each of us went on stage and received our certificate and bear. Once all of us had been given our items we clenched our caps.. it was a breathtaking moment we couldn’t believe it was happening.. 1..2..3 and we officially graduated!
Latifa Nejat
Maths: This term in Maths we have worked on many areas of the curriculum: number - prime and composite numbers, written strategies for division and integers; financial mathematics and money (which has a lovely natural connection with decimals and percentages); patterns and algebra - order of operations; geometric reasoning - angles; chance - probabilities and chance experiments. The students were very surprised and delighted to have completed their whole textbook even though we have been working on it all year! To finish up the year we have been working on revising decimals, percentages and fractions. All students have been given a booklet to work through and may take it home for holiday homework if they wish. For those students who have not reached their times table goals it would be most beneficial to spend time practicing in the holidays to build their skills before next year. Thank you so much to all the year 6 students for a wonderful year and all the fun and laughter we enjoyed, i will miss you all very much.
Science: Well done to all the students for doing an amazing job on their research task. Students completed their posters where they chose to explain how energy is generated or explain the types of energy there are in the world. Students also conducted an experiment using switches and batteries to investigate series and parallel circuits. It was fantastic to see students engaged and participate in the experiments collaboratively - I loved seeing our little scientists in work!
Art: The Year 6 Bunch have been having so much fun developing skills and techniques of voice and movement to create character, mood, atmosphere and action. In the past few weeks we have been playing drama games where students had the opportunity to explore improvisation. This helped students develop characters, scenes and situations - we’ve had a blast participating in these drama activities in our art classes and it’s been a fantastic way to end the year!
Technology: The past few weeks have been relatively busy in our classroom as students were working on their Food and Fibre Research Activity. Individually, students created meal plans which followed guidelines and policies towards healthy eating, food safety and hygiene practices. Students displayed various skills on how they planned, created and communicated ideas and information online where they applied ethical, social and technical protocols towards researching for their meal plans and their Food and Fibre Research task. From their research task, students researched a food or fibre process and evaluated the resources used - students also described the relationship between plants and animals and their environment - wonderful work!
Business and Economics: Students in our Year 6 bunch have had an eye opening term - where we’ve learnt more about the effect consumers and financial decisions can have on the individual, the broader community and the environment. In the past few weeks, students discovered the concept of opportunity cost and how it involves serious choices about the alternative use of resources and the need to consider trade-offs. Students also learnt about the reasons businesses exist and the different ways they provide goods and services through natural, human and capital resources.
We hope you have a relaxing, safe and wonderful holiday! Make sure you enjoy every moment and make the most of this holiday season! Take care.
Warmest Regards,
Year 6 Teachers,
Mrs Tuba, Mrs Burton & Miss Sawafta.

Year 6
YEAR 7 – GOLDEN GROVE
This year went by so fast and kids in each year level have grown up to be successful adults and someone like you!
This term, the year 7’s had hired a coach for volleyball and learnt new techniques for how to play and many had lots of fun.
In English, we studied the movie The Wale Rider and created and oral presentation using and interviewer and director, who discussed the movie and its camera shots and angles. In science, we learn about magnets, how it works and what attracts to it. We even did practicals to test our theories. Art involved learning about Mondrian Art and its history including how we use shapes and how it was invented.
We have been practicing hard to the End of Year Performance. It was very enjoyable making up the dance.

FOUNDATION – GILLES PLAINS
Dear Parents,
It’s hard to believe we have already completed forty weeks of Foundation! Time went so quickly.
As I write the final news for our 2019 Foundation cohort, I would like to reflect on the achievements of the students and the fun times we had together over the year. First, we congratulate our Academic Award recipients, 1st Noor Ameera, 2nd Amr Chama and 3rd Anaya Quazi. Their hard work, persistence and perseverance over the year has helped them to achieve academic success across the curriculum. The Foundation Behaviour Award recipient, Sarah Ali, continuously demonstrated our classroom and school rules and she was an outstanding role model for others. This year’s Endeavour Award recipient, Aysheh Hassan, demonstrated the skills required of successful learners and her academic progress reflected how constant application and a drive to do your best helps you to achieve your learning goals. The academic progress of all students is to be commended. It is so rewarding to see your child come into the classroom day one of Foundation with limited Literacy and Numeracy skills, and to leave at the end of the year reading, writing and solving math problems.
Over the year we have had many fun experiences which have enriched our curriculum, helped us develop relationships and celebrate being part of a school community. These include Harmony Day, Book Week, Music Count Us In and the End of Year Concert. I will treasure these memories for years to come and I hope your child will too.
To conclude, I would like to Thank each and every parent for helping us to achieve great things in Foundation. You have made more impact than you will never know. Have a safe and happy holiday.
Miss Bianca Villani

Like a support teacher said to me today, each child is like a book. It’s not until you read the book, that you learn to understand what it is about and what it is worth. Even though a year has gone by, I am still intrigued by the knowledge that my students have shared with me and I hope they have gained strategies and knowledge in preparation for next year. I would like to wish each and every one of my Year 1 students, all the very best for 2020.
Kind regards,
Ms Mackowiak

YEAR 3 – GILLES PLAINS
Dear Parents,
What a year this has been! I am so proud of my students and what they have achieved. I look forward to working with them again next year.
Firstly, I want to thank all of you for your support and kind words throughout the year. Comparing their PAT results from the beginning of the year to now, most students in our class have shown growth. I am proud of them.
We have a lot to look forward to next year. If everything goes well, the highlight of 2020 will be the Zoo Snooze activity at the Adelaide Zoo. Please google it and look at this amazing program! We also look forward to a lot of reading through our 40 Book Challenge and the improvements in the library.
To round up the year, I would like to remind you that all library books and readers must be returned to school as soon as possible. Missing books will need to be paid for. In addition, please ensure books and stationery for 2020 is bought early to avoid delays in receiving orders.
Have a wonderful holiday and I look forward to seeing you all next year.
Kind regards,
Shalini Thilkan

MUSIC
As we near the end of the year, I asked the students what they thought about having Music lessons this year. Here is what some of them had to say:
“I couldn’t use drums, bongos or the triangles, but thanks to my beautiful music teacher, now I can. Music makes my stress go away and it makes me happy and joyful.” Tilla (Yr 4)
“I can now interpret music in ways I couldn’t do before. Instead of seeing, I feel music. I will try to see how music is different from other countries. My favourite part of music is absolutely everything, having an awesome teacher and learning so much.” Anonymous (Yr 4)
“I enjoy music because it makes me entertained and one day I could be a musician.” Anonymous (Yr 4)
“I enjoy music because when we make music as a class it sounds so good and I love listening to other people’s ideas. I can’t wait to learn more music!” Habiba (Yr 4)
“I learnt how to play the xylophone and I guess I learned how to play everything because I didn’t know how to use instruments. I enjoy music because I can make music myself instead of looking at other people doing it.” Elyas (Yr 4)
“I enjoy music because we sing many interesting songs and learn new things.” Inisha (Yr 3)

“I learnt that you might not have an instrument that you need but you can improvise. When we didn’t have a cabasa we used a shekere. It all comes together as music. I love that Miss Schache loves that we all make mistakes to help us improve.” Ameerah (Yr 5)
“I have learnt many things in music that I have never even thought about before. I can now improvise with an E minor pentatonic scale, create music myself, and actually understand it and recreate it. I am most proud of myself for actually playing music and sounding pretty good at it.” Wasifa (Yr 5)
