PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE - Gilles Plains

Dear Parents, friends and students,

Welcome to the first newsletter of Term 3.

It has been a great term so far with minimum disturbace. While teaching and learning disruption is a major concern across Australia, in my opinion Pinnacle College is one of the least affected schools, due to having the required steps and precautions in place.

The upgrade for the school entrance is in progress. The first upgrade will take place at the upper primary entrance site. The area will be resurfaced and a staff car park will be available in a few weeks. The main entrance upgrade is still under review and to be announced when a decision is made.

The preparations for OSCH for both Golden Grove and Gilles Plain sites are still going on. Our aim is to make it available for our students by the beginning of next year, 2023. I will inform you regarding the updates when available to me.

Unfortunately, we had to postpone the sports day due to bad weather. It will be very likely organised in Term 4 and you will be informed as soon as a date is set with the athletics field.

Please do use the suggestion box located at the front office. Any feedback from you is greatly appreciated.

I wish everyone a healthy and covid-flu free weeks ahead of Term 3.

Kind Regards,
Mr Atilla Sinik
Campus Principal

PRIMARY COORDINATOR

Dear students, Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome everyone to an amazing start to Term 3. The second half of the year, with all of these events and activities, including the Science Week incursion on forensic science, which students thoroughly enjoyed, the SRC excursion and Book Week activities and parade. We also conducted a door competition during book week, which resulted in these amazing book covers on our classroom doors.

I'd also like to point out that the lunch break has been extended to 45 minutes, allowing our students to participate in more outdoor activities.

All of our clubs have restarted, and our Tournament of Minds club is working extremely hard. We are super excited to have our school compete next month.

Finally, a little housekeeping. The number of children requesting early leave has increased, and we respectfully request that you tell the office in advance if your child needs to leave early for an appointment. We understand that appointments must be scheduled, but we would prefer to minimize the disruption to daily learning. I appreciate your help in this matter.

Many thanks for your support.

Kind Regards,
Mr Ola Abdelmonem

JUNIOR PRIMARY CURRICULUM COORDINATORS

Dear Parents,

I would like to inform you that as of Week 8 this term, I will be on maternity leave. I would like to thank you all for the incredible support and strong relationships we have formed throughout my role as Junior Primary Curriculum Coordinator. I have loved visiting all your children in the Junior Primary years and have seen such progress. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce our new Junior Primary Curriculum Coordinator Mrs Chloe Rees, who will be taking on my role. I would like to wish Chloe all the best with her new role and I am certain that she will continue to do great things for our children in the junior years.

Kind Regards,
Maria Vokolos

I am super excited to begin my new role at Pinnacle College after 6 years of being full time in the classroom. I have big shoes to fill from Maria, as she has done an excellent job of handling all Junior Primary curriculum issues. I am located at the Golden Grove campus, so don’t hesitate to contact me by email if there is something I can help with!

Kind Regards,
Chloe Rees

UPPER PRIMARY CURRICULUM COORDINATOR

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

It was wonderful to read over so many report comments at the end of Semester 1. It highlighted the way students were building relationships and displaying their strengths. The challenge I have for students now is to reflect on how they can make a positive impact on their learning and interaction with one another. Students need to be accountable for their own learning. Use the feedback they are given to improve and be organised for their lessons and be ready to learn. They must demonstrate cooperation by working productively and positively with others, respecting their peers and the learning environment. With this attitude, students will excel and will be actively participating in lessons. They will strive for better grades and look for challenges in their learning. Let’s work together, to ensure our students inculcate good learning habits and manners so that they can do well at school.

Kind Regards,
Shalini Moss

FOUNDATION

Dear Families,

It has been an amazing start to term 3! The foundation class have such infectious enthusiasm towards learning and life. I am so proud of the effort they exhibit as they are learning to apply their phonetic knowledge to write interesting recounts about past events.

I am looking forward to many more exciting learning experiences this term!

Thank you for your continued support!

YEAR 1

Dear Parents,

Our Year 1 students have begun this term with a ‘Let’s do this!’ attitude. They are on the roll with showing that they can argue their point of view, during our Persuasive writing lessons and are persisting with counting on and back in Math. Our recent excursion to the Aviation, Maritime and National Railway Museums, was a hit!

Kind regards,
Ms Victoria Mackowiak

YEAR 2

This term we have been so busy building our skills and future dreams! Here’s a little peek at some fun facts about our class.

Fact #1 - They say that money doesn’t solve all the problems. Our HEROES were able to solve all their numeracy problems with money!

Fact #2 - Creating tools out of natural materials wasn’t an easy Science task as we originally assumed. However, the Year 2 TEAM persevered and decided to “Think like a proton and stay positive!”

Fact #3 - Writing about what we wonder about, not about what we know was our little trick in describing our mysterious characters this term!

Mrs Maya Sayegh & Mrs Sandra Holland

YEAR 3

Dear Families,

What a spectacular term we have had so far! In English, we have been focusing on poetry and have studied Haiku, Cinquain and Acrostic poems. In Art, we created a Van Gogh inspired artwork, based on the artist’s work; Starry Night. We can’t wait for our book week parade and our Planetarium excursion! I would also like to welcome our new student, Noh Noor to our Year 3 class!

Kind regards,
Miss Kerry Apergis

YEAR 4

Dear Parents,

It has been an exciting start to the term. Students have been learning their timetables and excelling in double-digit multiplication. In English they are reading the book Matilda by Roald Dahl. This term they have written some beautiful narratives and later in the term they will write poems. This term, we are all looking forward to Book Week and Science Week activities.

Please give your child time on the computer to complete their online tasks from Mathletics and Literacy Planet.

Kind regards,
Mrs Shalini Moss

YEAR 5

Dear Families,

Term 3 is certainly going to be the busiest term yet! With so many exciting events planned for the upcoming weeks, we’ve been working extra hard to ensure we’re on top of the content. Students have found the hands-on procedural tasks in English particularly enjoyable, and our Maths multiplication and division competitions have proved to be a thrilling way to revise previous content and practise working under pressure.

Kind regards,
Ms Mubarak Ashimajy

YEAR 6

The start of term 3 has been full of great learning experiences for our year 6 students. We have been learning about our government system here in Australia and have even been working on passing our own class Bill in the same way that a bill is passed into law here in our country. We have also been learning about natural disasters and have been engineering our own earthquake resistant buildings. We have also been preparing hard for Book week (The most magical week of the school year!). We hope that you will be able to come and look at the art that we have created to decorate the Library door!

Kind regards,
Mr Peter Sowerbutts
