PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Dear Parents and Friends,
Welcome to Issue 3 of the school newsletter for 2023.
After a long break during the Covid era, we finally held our swimming classes at the Thebarton aquatic centre across all primary year levels for the Golden Grove Campus. We are very pleased with the interest in these classes and hope to see this interest growing in the future. We were very lucky to secure these classes due to various reasons, including the swimming instructor shortages, however, it has worked well. There are several issues we need to tackle for the next year to give the best experience to our students and we are very hopeful that these problems will be sorted in our favour. The Gilles Plains campus will hold classes in the following week.
The Gilles Plains car park is now open for our parents and staff. The new parking space has provided significant flexibility to our parents so that they can park and collect their kids safely. I would like to thank the state government for their contribution to this project which encouraged the school board to take this initiative. The Golden Grove girls high school building will be handed over in a few weeks of time. I have seen how this project started from a humble idea and became a complex project. It has been a significant challenge in this post-Covid time to get the project to come to an end, however, witnessing the fruits of labour will make anyone forget all these difficult times. I am hopeful our students and community will also appreciate the hard work and efforts from everyone involved from day one.
The enrolments for the 2024 school year have officially started with the message to our new applicants which was sent over the weekend. As you are all aware, we have limited capacity in our primary school and I urge all of our current parents to contact the front office if they have any enrolment inquiries. Unfortunately, we do receive late applications from our parents sometimes and this puts us in a very difficult position to accommodate the requests if not informed accordingly.
Lastly, I wish everyone a great term and look forward to seeing our secondary parents at our Parent Teacher Interviews in week 6 of this term.
Kind Regards,
Mr Atilla Sinik
Campus Principal
SECONDARY COORDINATOR
Dear Parents and Friends,
We have had a busy and productive start to Term 2! The SRC team has been organising our assemblies and doing an amazing job presenting and hosting them. Thank you and well done!
We are looking forward to parent teacher interviews which will be held on Wednesday 7th of June in week 6. It is very important that parents attend or organise an alternative. This will help our students improve their engagement in learning and education. We are also looking forward to seeing all our families and friends at the Qurban festival which will be held on the 16th of June. The students have been busy creating games and activities that they will lead and facilitate at the event.
Currently we are in the process of assessing students’ learning for Term 2. It would be highly beneficial if parents check in with their children and find out about their learning and current assessments. We hope they try their best!
One of the key principles in our Wellbeing program called ‘The Resilience Project’, is ‘Gratitude’. Gratitude is when we pay attention to the things we have right now, and not worry about the things we don't have. We would be delighted for families to discuss what gratitude means to them, whilst also discussing the importance of being grateful in general. For more information please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you!
Kind Regards,
Mrs Renee Taylor
PRIMARY COORDINATOR
Dear Parents/Caregivers & Friends,
I hope you have been keeping well.
In Week 4 many of our primary students attended a Water Safety Program at the Thebarton Aquatic Centre. Swimming is not only a popular recreational activity but also an essential life skill that can greatly contribute to our children's physical and mental development.
Here are a few reasons why Swimming & Water Safety Programs are good and important for our students:
- Water·Safety: Learning to swim provides our children with the necessary skills to stay safe in and around water. By instilling water safety knowledge, we can enhance their confidence and reduce the risks associated with water-related activities.
- Physical Fitness: Swimming is a fantastic form of exercise that engages multiple muscle groups, promotes cardiovascular health, and improves overall stamina and flexibility. Regular swimming can contribute to a healthy lifestyle and help our children develop lifelong habits of staying active.
- Cognitive Development: Swimming requires focus, coordination, and discipline. By participating in swimming classes, our students can enhance their cognitive skills, including problem-solving abilities, spatial awareness, and motor coordination.
- Social Interaction and Teamwork: Swimming classes provide an excellent opportunity for our children to engage in social interaction and teamwork. They can develop new friendships, build trust and support among their peers, and learn the importance of collaboration and cooperation in a group setting.
- Stress Relief and Mental Wellbeing: Swimming is known for its calming and therapeutic effects on the mind and body. Engaging in swimming activities can help our students relax, unwind, and improve their overall mental wellbeing.
Thank you for your ongoing support in signing up your children for the Water Safety Program. Students had an absolute blast, and it was great to see so many achievements. All participating students received certificates as well. Together, we can ensure that our students have the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive both in and out of the water.
I look forward to seeing many of our families at our upcoming Qurban Festival. Thank you!
Kind Regards,
Miss Sawafta Natasha
JUNIOR PRIMARY CURRICULUM COORDINATOR
Dear Parents,
A busy start to Term 2 with Sports Day, Swimming Week and excursions to Para Wirra Conservation Park, Gorge Wildlife Park and Uleybury Museum. Our little Junior Primary students have been having a blast with all of the adventures taking them outside of their comfort zones (the classroom!) and learning through nature play and hands-on experiences.
The Swimming Week has been absolutely fantastic to see our little sharks, dolphins and seals practising water safety and loving their lessons. A big thankyou to Miss S for organising this, after a few years of COVID taking away such enjoyment for the students.
It has been great to see our teachers taking learning outside of the classroom. At GG, Miss Amy has been taking her students outside in the sun for some Spelling. At EE, Miss Ritchie’s Year 2s have been learning the jump strategy for addition outside using chalk and number lines on the floor. At GP, Miss Villani’s creative art students have been learning how to use different camera angles taking pictures around the school!
I hope our new families and new Foundation students enjoyed their first Sports Day at Bridgestone Athletics Track and it will be great to see you again at our GG campus for our Qurban Festival Day!
Kind Regards,
Mrs Chloe Rees
UPPER PRIMARY CURRICULUM COORDINATOR
Dear Parents,
Welcome back to another term! I hope you have all had an enjoyable holiday.
My name is Mubarak Ashimajy, or 'Miss Mubarak' as the students prefer to call me, and I will be acting as the Upper Primary Curriculum Coordinator while Miss Watkins is away on maternity leave. I cannot begin to express how thrilled I am about this opportunity, and wish Miss Watkins the best of luck with her beautiful new baby. I am sure I speak for all of us when I say we look forward to seeing her again soon.
Term 2 has many exciting events in store for us, one of which is the Book Fair. It is no secret that reading has many benefits. Not only does it help students develop their vocabulary, reading comprehension, and critical and creative thinking skills, it is also proven to reduce anxiety and stress levels. Reading aloud can improve speaking skills and confidence. I strongly advise all parents to take a moment out of their day to listen to their children read. Our students are consistently striving to improve, and they would love a chance to share their knowledge and skills with the people they care about most.
Kind Regards,
Miss Mubarak Ashimajy
INCLUSIVE EDUCATION COORDINATOR (PRIMARY)
Dearest Families,
Welcome to Term 2. I trust you all had a wonderful holiday break!
This term, the inclusive education department has been focusing on building our intensive literacy program, developed by SPELD SA (Specific learning difficulties South Australia.) Students participating in the program are working on their literacy skills in phonics, grammar, punctuation and reading.
SPELD SA also maintains a register of qualified and specialist tutors, who provide individual tutoring for children and adults with specific learning difficulties. For more information, please visit their website https://www.speldsa.org.au/tutoring
This term, we will also be running our Social Skills program called ‘What’s the Buzz,’ an evidence-based program now used in more than 130 countries to teach young people social and emotional intelligence. The program is facilitated by our lovely school counsellor, Zina Almufti.
Finally, your child’s teacher will be organising a meeting with you in the upcoming weeks to discuss the learning goals and adjustments on individual learning plans. We look forward to meeting with you soon!
If you have any questions, as always please feel free to get in touch with me by making an appointment at the front office or via email Kerry.sangermano@pinnacle.sa.edu.au

Mrs Kerry Sangermano
INCLUSIVE EDUCATION COORDINATOR (SECONDARY GOLDEN GROVE)
Dear Parents, Caregivers and Friends,
I would like to introduce myself as the Inclusive Education Coordinator for secondary students at Golden Grove campus. I am passionate about supporting all students to access the same quality of education, and I am excited to perform this role.
Since the start of the term, I have been working to increase awareness of mental health support services that are available for students to access. I have also been busy finalising the ILPs (Individual Learning Plans) with the input of students and staff.
I have been really enjoying getting to know students and families, and I look forward to meeting many more of you in the coming weeks, through both ILP meetings and parent teacher interviews.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me anytime via front office or email: liz.allan@pinnacle.sa.edu.au .
Kind Regards,
Dr Liz Allan
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT DEPARTMENT
Dear Parents and Friends,
We’ve started another term with a very busy agenda. I would like to begin with a big thank you to our parents who volunteered at the Mother's Day stall and helped to raise $1,030.50. Our dear sisters both from Golden Grove and Gilles Plains Campuses donated this money to sponsor 5 surgical operations on (one eye of) a cataract patient in Mali, Africa through the “Cataract Campaign” of the Australian Relief Organisation. We are very happy to know that priority will be given to patients who are bilaterally blind from cataracts.
Term 2 is full of activities for our dedicated mothers. I feel so privileged to announce that our first ever Mother & Daughter Camp is happening this weekend. I wish for a relaxing and fruitful program for our participants.
As a community engagement department we work with the Pastoral Care department from time to time. We organized a candle making workshop for Pastoral Care students where they decorated their own handmade soy wax candles to give to their precious mums at the Mother's Day Afternoon Tea. It was great fun to see all the mums trying to answer the questions about their daughters as a part of bonding activities. Thanks to all Pastoral Care teachers for their help to make this program happen!
Another piece of great news from this term is that some of our P&F members will have a trip to Sydney to experience the Vivid Sydney event, see this beautiful city and visit our sister schools (Amity College) and partner organizations like ARO and ISRA.
Please join us in Golden Grove P&F Group and be a part of these wonderful events.
We are always looking for new members.
Regards,
Mrs Serap Sinik

SCHOOL COUNSELLOR
Dear all,
I hope you are all well.
I would like to let you know that Shamima has joined our support/counselling team at Golden Grove on Fridays. If you see her around, please don't hesitate to say hello.
For this article, I would like to bring your attention to mental health and seeking support. I am well aware that in our communities there is stigma surrounding the topic of mental health and seeking support. It is important to understand that everyone experiences mental health issues at some point throughout their lifetime. It is crucial to have knowledge and educate ourselves on the topic of mental health to better understand our children whilst also creating a positive, supportive and accepting environment for them. This will allow your child to better express their problems and seek support when they are struggling.
Counselling is available to provide tools and strategies to support your children to manage and overcome challenges. If you believe your child needs support please don't hesitate to reach out and contact me at zina.almufti@pinnacle.sa.edu.au or shamima.kader@pinnacle.sa.edu.au
Kind Regards,
Miss Zina Almufti
FRONT OFFICE NOTICES
LIBRARY
The library is always a place where things happen. This term we are hoping all students will complete the Premiers Reading Challenge. Reception, Year 1 and 2 complete this as a class. All other students should be completing the PRC form.
A reminder that all books need to be returned before the due date, otherwise children can not borrow books or readers from the library.
We are encouraging primary students to read books the colour of their sports team to add to our Sports display.
The Book Fair has been postponed until June 6th - 12th. The Book Fair is a great opportunity for every student to have books of their own to keep and treasure. To encourage this, we will have a special when buying 3 or more books. Come and see the staff at the Book Fair during lunch, recess and after school. All primary classes will Browse the Book Fair during library time on Thursday.
May is history month in South Australia and the primary classes have enjoyed some items from the early 1900s and even the late 1900s.
Mrs Lisa Preston
Ms Tammy Skelton

PASTORAL CARE
Dear Caregivers,
Pastoral Care and Community Engagement teams organised a Mother’s Day afternoon tea in the Golden Grove campus gym. It was lovely to see the mothers enjoying their day.

CHOIR CLUB
Dear Parents,
This term, the choir has been working very hard! They had their very first ever combined choir rehearsal at Golden Grove campus where the choir students from all campuses came together to practice for the DreamBIG festival and their repertoire so far.
Some students attended the DreamBIG Festival in week 3, and they got to sing alongside 2,000 other students at the Adelaide Festival Theatre where they sang the song ‘My Island Home’. Some special moments of the event were that the MC was Jack from BTN, they got to watch a live performance from a singer on The Voice, and there was a performance of some dancers who used hoverboards! It was such an incredible opportunity and a spectacular day!
Kind Regards,
Miss Natasha Parletta

PRIMARY CLASSES
FOUNDATION
Term 2 so far has been jam packed filled with many FIRSTS for our Foundation students! Week 2 we celebrated our very first Sports Day! We loved meeting our other Foundation friends from Gilles Plains and Elizabeth East and supporting our sports teams and learning our team chants! Students are sailing through the Jolly Phonics program and have even moved into learning digraphs: that’s when two sounds/letters are put together to make a new sound! Please ask us about digraphs when you see us in the yard, we can’t wait to show you how clever we are! On this 74th day of Foundation we are getting ready to celebrate our last day of our swimming program. Not only have we been swimming and having fun in the water, we have been learning crucial water skills that will help us in dangerous or threatening situations around water. We are also now professionals at floating on our backs.
Warm Regards,
Ms Smith
YEAR 1
What a busy start we have had to term 2! Sports Day, Swimming Week, Excursions and lots of great learning. In English, we have been learning about writing procedures and the importance of using verbs and adverbs to make our writing specific and interesting. We have loved creating ‘How to’ texts and can’t wait to put our work into action and make some fruit skewers and fairy bread!
In HASS we have been learning about families and changes over time. We have spoken about how children's lives have changed over time and how we as individuals look different as time goes by. Our family wall is looking amazing!
On Friday June 16, we will be having the Qurban Festival, we cannot wait to see our parents, families and friends come together to celebrate!
Kindest Regards,
Miss Amy
YEAR 2
We have had a fantastic start to the term learning how to use the column method for addition and subtraction and exploring the structure and language of Information Texts. Our excursion to Para Wirra Conservation Park was eye-opening, learning about the different scat’s of animals (their poo!) and all the different habitats that animals have. We were able to then meet some animals, including a sugar glider that jumped off Ms Donna’s shoulder and a 2.7m carpet python! Abdukkudus and Dana were even lucky enough to get a kiss from a blue tongued monitor lizard!
Please remember that Library Borrowing Day is every Thursday! We have lots of students not remembering to bring their books each week. Also, a reminder to bring in the EOYC form and money so that we can start getting our costumes ready for the big event! If your child is not participating, please let me know. I hope to see you all at the Qurban Festival.
Kindest Regards,
Mrs Rees

YEAR 3
This term has been such fun so far! We had a wonderful excursion to DreamBIG Festival, with all Year 3 students from all campuses attending to watch the theatre performance of Mem Fox’s tale of Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge. It was a truly touching performance, about a little boy’s mission to restore the memories of his favourite resident at the nursing home next door. Students were literally hanging off the edge of their seats during the show, which was accompanied by the Australian chamber orchestra who played the viola, cello and violins in their fuzzy slippers! We even had the opportunity to ask the orchestra some questions at the end of the show. It was a big hit amongst all of our students and we can’t wait to visit the DreamBIG festival again next year.
Kindest Regards,
Mrs Sangermano

YEAR 4
We have had a busy and exciting start to the term, with Sports Day and Swimming Week being highlights so far!
In English, we are studying Biography texts and have learnt some interesting facts about famous people and how to use these to create engaging biographies. We have really enjoyed interviewing a special adult in our lives and are now writing a biography about them, along with creating an oral presentation to share with the class. This has tied in well with our topic of World Explorers in History. We have been learning some fascinating information about famous explorers and the impact they have had on discovering our world, such as Captain Cook, Ibn Battuta and Zheng He.
We had fun doing some hands-on experiments in Science and Technologies, including examining the materials that toys are made from, the properties of these and the forces involved when we play with them.
Kind Regards,
Ms Zeunert

YEAR 5
What an amazing start to the term with Sports Day! As always, a good day out, and these year 5s are fantastic at supporting and encouraging each other.
In English, we dove deep into information reports with most of us feeling very confident with summarising and paraphrasing. Next up, we will be looking at how to structure an information report. Then, we write.
As you know, week 4 was all about swimming, and the students had an absolute blast. Prior to swimming, students felt a little unsure about having mixed groups. But from day 1, students worked together in their mixed groups and had a lot of fun just being kids! They learnt a lot of crucial life lessons about water safety, and I saw very confident swimmers by the end of the week. Well done year 5s.
Warm Regards,
Mr Incoll
YEAR 6
Dear Parents & Caregivers,
I hope you are doing well!
What a busy start to Term 2! Students have displayed an amazing effort in Sports Day & Swimming Week. I am extremely proud of everyone’s achievements, and the teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship that have been displayed through both events.
In Maths, students have been learning about Fractions (Improper Fractions, Mixed Number Fractions & Addition/Subtraction of Like/Unlike Fractions) as well as Decimal Fractions. Our Maths lessons have been filled with many “aahs and oos” and it’s been great to see students develop their understanding of the concepts. In English, our text type focus for this Term is Biographies. Students have been learning about different language features and different components required to form biographies: we will be using our knowledge to write a biography on a family member + someone imperative in Australian history soon.
Students received their Term 2 overviews – please let me know if you have any questions regarding assessments or projects for this term. I look forward to seeing many of you at our Qurban Festival on Friday the 16th of June!
Kind Regards,
Miss Sawafta

PRIMARY PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Physical Education this term has started with a bang with our Primary Sports Day! Students participated in Athletic events and fun games. We finished the day with sprint races which were enjoyed by all. School spirit was high, with lots of students cheering for their house and displaying sportsmanship. Congratulations to all competitors and particularly Angus House who were our winners for the day!
Kind regards,
Miss Bridget Andrews

PRIMARY MUSIC
Dear Parents,
Music has been such a blast this term! All classes have been VERY busy learning lots of new things: mainly, how to play instruments. The Year 5/6s are learning chair drumming - instead of using a drum kit, they are learning exactly how to play using chairs and real drum sticks. The Year 3s are learning how to play the recorder, and the Year 4s are learning how to play the Ukulele. Instruments can be very challenging to learn, but the most important part about it is to practice. If you have the chance to purchase any instruments for the students to practice at home, you won’t regret it. Keep up the amazing work!
Kind Regards,
Miss Natasha Parletta
SECONDARY CLASSES
YEAR 7
In order to properly appreciate First Nations Art past and present, students need to understand why and how First Nations people create art. In Aboriginal culture, art has been used as a visual language. It is a form of communication and is also a visual documentation of First Nations history. Students have been tasked with creating a visually pleasing, informative poster about Aboriginal Art for their first visual art project this term.
Kind regards,
Year 7 Teachers

YEAR 8
In year 8 students are utilising Blender software, which is used to design and manipulate objects. Blender is a 3D based software where students can design 3D characters, edit videos and animate. So far students successfully designed a chair, a tower and a vase.
Kind Regards,
Year 8 teachers

YEAR 9
In Health, the Year 9 students have been learning about the benefits of being physically active. Being physically active has a huge amount of benefits, such as improved heart health, stronger bones, improved concentration and many more! The National Physical Activity Guidelines recommends that children and young people should do 60 minutes of physical activity per day - this doesn’t have to be all at once and can be accumulated throughout the day. Did you know they also recommend that young people shouldn’t have more than 2 hours of screen time per day? This is to limit the amount of time young people spend sitting and using devices. Education related tasks do not count towards this limit. It’s important to be active
Technology
The year 9 class are learning HTML and CSS, where students are designing their own website. So far, they have created the base and structure of their website. In the coming weeks they will be working on the designing and organising of their webpage. They have learned to link HTML with CSS, and to put ordered and unordered lists of items in their websites.
Kind regards,
Year 9 teachers
YEAR 10
Currently in Year 10 Visual Arts, students are taking part in the MOD Schools Design challenge. We have brainstormed the question; How might we overcome limits so that humans can thrive in the next 50 years? Students have been tasked with inventing a product that could help humans overcome limits so that humans can thrive in the future. Students are currently in the planning and ideation phase of the project. They are developing their ideas and creating a promotional launch poster for their revolutionary new products.
In Term 1 in Visual Arts, students explored performative artworks by artist Aki Inmate. They were inspired to create performative or interactive works of art that suggest the benefits of interacting with other species, or highlight the importance of the natural world in the 21st century despite technological advancements. We began by designing homes for hermit crabs using the 3D printer.
Kind regards,
Year 10 Teachers

SECONDARY PHYSICAL EDUCATION
I firstly wish to thank our Secondary students who helped with the Primary Sports Day. Students showed high levels of responsibility and were enthusiastic when coaching the students. In our Secondary PE classes students have been working on a variety of things, pictured are our Year 8 students practicing their soccer skills with a Football SA instructor! A few weeks ago we had Year 9 and 10 students represent Pinnacle College on a Volleyball Excursion. The girls played really well and they improved dramatically throughout the term and on the day.
Kind regards,
Miss Bridget Andrews

STEM GIRLS ACADEMY
At Stem Academy, we had a lot of fun experiencing new things we’ve never done before, such as critical thinking, analysing, and creating new prototypes. We also learned how to train our minds and develop a creative and design thinking mindset. We got to socialise with different schools, enhancing our teamwork skills. We’d like to thank UniSA and Maria for organising this program for us.

LANGUAGES AND RELIGION
RELIGION AND VALUES
السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته
Assalamu Alaykum everyone,
This term, the Year 9s have been learning about Science of the Quran. We have been discussing the Divine and the Quranic Revelation. We learnt that the Quran was revealed more than 1,400 years ago in the hands of our beloved Prophet (Peace & Blessings be upon him).
As a term project, every student will create a poster showing these numerous scientific accuracies proven in the Quran. They will be presented in class, and contain many facts and verses from the Holy Quran that modern science has only recently proved. Did you know that the Big Bang theory, black holes, genetics, embryology and more, have all been mentioned in the Quran? Not only that, but the Quran itself, is a miracle on its own that defies science. How can a book remain in perfect condition, without being changed, forgotten or ruined? Only with Allah's help.
Maha Ahmed & Asmaa Adam, Year 9 students

السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته
Dear Parents,
Welcome back to a new term filled with exciting learning opportunities. This term will be particularly busy for the Year 5&6 Arabic class as they embark on their journey of learning Arabic. The students will be focusing on reading texts from their textbook to enhance their language skills. Moreover, they will also engage in speaking assignments.
As part of their assignments, the students had the wonderful opportunity to design a special Mother's Day card. They didn’t only create beautiful cards but also wrote appreciation letters to their mums. These expressions of gratitude will be presented to the entire class, providing a meaningful platform for students to showcase their love and appreciation for their mothers.
We are confident that these activities will not only enhance the students' Arabic language skills but also instill in them the value of expressing gratitude and love towards their families.
Thank you for your continued support in fostering a love for learning in our students.
Warm Regards,
Mrs Soheir Habib
